Strong, ON

August 4, 2022

The Township of Strong is pleased to announce the construction of the Almaguin Highlands Outdoor Community Hub. The construction will be next to the Strong Township Administration Office. This project is valued at $1,000,000 with $500,000 contributed by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (Community Enhancement Program – Rural Enhancement Fund), $350,000 contributed by Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (Canada Community Revitalization Fund), and $150,000 contributed by the Township of Strong.

A survey completed during the Covid-19 pandemic indicated that residents in the Almaguin area desire more recreational opportunities. The Almaguin Highlands Outdoor Community Hub will provide a safe and inclusive area which has the opportunity to be used for a variety of activities and events such as yoga, fitness classes, farmers markets, workshops, skating, wellness and cultural events, and more. This project will help foster a greater sense of community and belonging within the Almaguin region.

Further, this project aligns with the Township of Strong’s Strategic Plan in which one goal is “to promote and encourage a healthy active lifestyle for all ages of our residents.” The Almaguin Highlands Outdoor Community Hub will promote the importance of physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being through the execution of events and programs.
